Hi, I’m Miriam Echevarria. I hold an undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering, which inspired me to co-found CAPTA, a personalized assistive technology center. At CAPTA, we design and 3D print devices that empower people with disabilities to achieve greater independence. CAPTA is not just a business; it’s my greatest achievement so far. I believe small, thoughtful changes can lead to profound impacts, fostering inclusion in a world that often overlooks accessibility. My dream is to leave a lasting impact through these small changes.
Growing up in Saltillo gave me my initial exposure to healthcare challenges. Living in Germany, South Africa, and the U.S. expanded my perspective on how cultural nuances shape care. My time in South Africa during the pandemic highlighted global healthcare inequalities, while hiking in Nepal deepened my understanding of rural medical struggles. Working in a public hospital in Saltillo reinforced my commitment to meaningful change.
These experiences have shaped me as a human-centered designer, instilling empathy and resilience. At CAPTA, I aim to create solutions that transform lives. Accessibility is about understanding people’s stories and addressing their unique needs.
I’m currently pursuing a master’s in Design focused on Health at the University of Texas at Austin. This program equips me with tools like user research, synthesis, and prototyping to expand my impact. My academic and professional projects align with my mission to improve healthcare accessibility.
Outside of work, I enjoy exploring new cultures, capturing moments through analog photography, and diving into creative projects like crochet. These hobbies reflect my curiosity and creativity, which also inspire my professional journey.
